Der Revell/Monogram Kit 1312 ist als einfacher ProFinish Snap-Tite Bausatz konzipiert, trotzdem kann man mit einigen zusätzlichen Teilen, etwas Supering und Verbesserungen ein ansprechendes Modell daraus bauen.

Die ProFinish Lackierung wurde im mittleren und im Heckbereich des Taurus unverändert beibehalten. Die klarlack-behandelte weiße Motorhaube wurde jedoch vollständig neu überlackiert, da das plastikhafte Aussehen zu sehr störte. Das Hauptsponsordecal von "Valvoline" auf der Haube und weitere Decals wurden aus einem Glue-Kit-Bausatz entnommen, die zu dicken Aufkleber des Snap-Tite Kits wanderten in die Grabbelkiste. Der weitere Zusammenbau der wenigen Teile der Innenausstattung erfolgte nach Bauanleitung, ein zusätzlicher Belüftungsschlauch wurde hinzugefügt. Der Boden des Innenraums wurde mit seidenmatter grauer Farbe; die Oberseite des Dash-boards und die Heckabdeckung mit Mattschwarz bemalt, ebenso wie die Polsterauflagen auf dem Rohrrahmen.

Das starre Fensternetz wurde durch ein selbstgebautes flexibles Netz ersetzt. Die Scheibenrahmen wurden von innen mit einem Lackstift gezogen. Nach Montage von Chassis und Karosserie wurde auch der Heckspoiler noch schwarz; das Endrohr des Auspuffs wurde aufgebohrt. Die Laufflächen der Reifen wurden aufgerauht und die Radmuttern der Felgen mit Silbermetall hervorgehoben. Nach der Endmontage zeigte sich eine viel zu hohe Bodenfreiheit des Frontspoilers, die durch eine Frontlippe aus Gummi ausgeglichen wurde. Der untere Kühllufteinlaß wurde mit einem Metallgitter detailliert und zum Abschluß der Arbeiten erhielt der Taurus noch eine Funkantenne.

Fazit:
Legt man keinen besonderen Wert auf die Darstellung eines Motors und bringt einige Verfeinerungen an, kann man mit einem ProFinish-Modell beste Ergebnisse erzielen. Äußerlich steht dieses Modell einem solchen aus einem Glue-Kit gebauten in nichts nach, wie auch der Vergleich mit dem Original aus der NASCAR Winston Cup Saison 1999 zeigt.

Biography
Mark Martin embarks on a new chapter in his storied racing career as he joins Ginn Racing where he will drive the No. 01 US Army Chevrolet in 2007. Martin will split seat time with rookie Regan Smith in the car, with Martin expected to run around 22 races, including the Daytona 500, Budweiser Shootout, Nextel All-Star Challenge and Coca-Cola 600.

Martin, a true legend within the sport, enters his 25th season of NEXTEL Cup racing, the last 19 of which he spent behind the wheel of the No. 6 Roush Racing car. Martin became one of only three drivers to qualify for the “Chase” for the Nextel Cup last season and his ninth-place finish in the points was his 16th top-10 points finish in the past 18 seasons.

He started his 600th consecutive Nextel Cup race in 2006 and he made his 617th consecutive start in the season finale at Homestead. He finished fourth in the points in 2004 and 2005 and he finished inside the top-five in the final point standings in 12 of the last 16 seasons. In addition, Martin has four runner-up finishes, including a second-place finish in 2002.

Martin has compiled one of the most successful careers in NASCAR history. His 35 wins are the third most among active drivers. He is currently fourth in Nextel Cup’s all-time standings and his name appears in the top 10 of several of NASCAR’s all-time lists. He has currently started 674 Cup races and 617 consecutively, dating back to Feb 18, 1988. In 674 starts Martin has 234 top-five finishes, 374 top-five finishes and 41 poles.

In addition, Martin’s 47 victories in the Busch Series are a series record, as are his 29 Busch poles. One of the fiercest and well rounded drivers in the sport, Martin became the first driver to win a Cup, Busch, Truck and IROC race at the same track with his win in the truck series at California Speedway.

Martin captured his record fifth Championship in the International Race of Champions series in 2005. The veteran used wins at Daytona and Richmond to bring his record total to 13th wins in the IROC series. Martin now has five championships in the series, including a record three straight from 1996-98.

Martin began his stock car racing career at the age of 15 on the local Arkansas dirt tracks. He won his first race in only his third start and the Arkansas State Championship in his first year of racing in 1974. He moved up to the V-8 division in 1976 and began racing on asphalt later that year.

His success continued, and by 1977 he began competing in the ASA series against drivers such as Rusty Wallace, Bobby Allison and Dick Trickle. He became the ASA Rookie of the Year in 1977, and then went on to win three consecutive championships from 1978-80.

Martin ran five NASCAR Cup races in 1981, which began laying the groundwork for his first full season in 1982. He had an impressive rookie year with eight top-10 finishes, although he never received payment from his sponsor. Unable to fund the team himself, Martin auctioned off everything in his shop in April 1983. He ran a limited Cup schedule for different owners that year before returning to the ASA series from 1984-86, where he claimed another championship in 1986.

Martin decided to take one more shot at NASCAR racing in 1987 when he drove a full-season Busch Grand National schedule for Bruce Lawmaster. It was Mark’s victory at Dover that year that sparked the attention of Jack Roush. Roush was preparing to begin his own Cup team in 1988 and selected Martin to be his driver.

Martin and Roush went on to achieve everything just short of a Cup title, earning 35 Nextel Cup victories and finishing second in the point standings four times (1990, 1994, 1998 and 2002), while consistently running at the front of the pack with one of the most successful race cars in NASCAR history.
